Complete the build of the camera setup for the First Person and Third Person views on a moving boat. We have two camera positions: One is a 1st person view in the cockpit behind the steering wheel and one about 3 meters and slightly elevated for a 3rd person view behind the boat.
-We are using the WSAD keys to drive the boat.
-While driving, we want the camera view to be adjustable using the mouse. (The camera position is fixed) The mouse
controls where the driver is looking. The key is that the camera is tracking the mouse
movement in relation to the boat and not the world/horizon. We're simulating a person’s head
looking left or right out the window of the boat, but not locking onto an object on the horizon.
the outside scenery is scrolling by, but the interior of the car is fixed I their view unless they
move their head with the mouse.
Here’s another way to describe it. The boat is heading Due North on a course of 0
degrees. The driver moves the mouse to the right to turn his head 20 degrees to the right
relative to the boat. So the boat heading is 0 degrees still and the camera angle is 20
degrees. He lets go of the mouse and is looking to the right as the boat drives
straight ahead. Now the boat turns to right (using the D key) by 30 degrees. The boat’s
heading is now 30 degrees and the camera heading is now 30+20 or 50 degrees. i.e. the
camera keeps its position relative to the boat. 20 degrees to the right no matter where
the boat goes. Lastly the driver “Looks forward again” by moving the mouse to the left
20 degrees so now the camera angle relative to the boat is 0. Straight ahead. And the
boat is still tracking at 30 degrees to the right of due north.
Challenging to convey with words. I can do a live call and show you using the actual
model in UE5.
