JOB OVERVIEW

Position: Authorization and Billing Specialist

Position Summary: The Authorization and Billing Specialist is a critical member of the Billing and Authorization team, responsible for securing Medicaid authorizations, notifying therapists and office staff about authorizations, and entering relevant data into the billing system. The role also supports medical records requests and other related administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities:

Authorization Management:

Monitor authorization reports and obtain Medicaid authorizations for all children.
Process incoming insurance authorizations, enter data into the billing software and EMR, and notify the appropriate therapist.
Billing Duties:

Process and track refunds, working closely with office teams and the billing manager.
Generate and analyze weekly billing error reports.
Assist with daily insurance verifications.
Administrative Support:

Manage Medicaid and Availity password updates, notifying the office of changes.
Handle calls, texts, and emails in a professional and timely manner.
Manage and update daily task lists and ensure completion.
Accurately maintain and report time logs, promptly notifying the billing manager of any scheduling conflicts.
Data Tracking & Statistics:

Track and update key statistics, including:
Patients on authorization hold due to downtrending Medicaid approvals.
Credit card refunds.
Maintain daily updates to the productivity spreadsheet.
Skills and Qualifications:

Required:

Satisfactory completion of a background check, criminal history check, and drug screening.
Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize efficiently, and respond quickly.
Preferred:

Previous experience in the medical field, particularly with insurance authorizations and quality control.
Abilities:

Effective communication and professional email/text/call management.
Ability to maintain thorough and organized records.
Proactive in identifying and contributing to process improvements.
Compensation:

Full-time position.
$4.37 per hour.
