Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Construction Legal Assistant with expertise in construction-related project management to assist in drafting, reviewing, and analyzing project-related legal documents, contracts, and compliance materials for general contractors. The ideal candidate is a hardworking professional with strong communication skills and a keen eye for legal detail. This role requires close collaboration with the in-house Project Manager to ensure smooth project execution and legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Documentation & Contract Drafting:
Prepare, review, and revise construction contracts, subcontracts, and project agreements.
Draft and edit change orders, RFIs, delay claims, and lien waivers to protect project interests.
Maintain project history and provide back office support to field management team.
Work closely with the in-house Project Manager to review project documentation and contract compliance.
Communicate with general contractors in resolving any change orders and any schedule conflicts.
Draft correspondence related to project disputes, payment issues, and warranty claims.
Prepare legal summaries for construction schedules, cost disputes, and contract negotiations.
Claims & Litigation Support:
Develop legal arguments and draft demand letters, mediation agreements, and settlement proposals.
Assist in preparing construction claims, delay justifications, and mechanic’s liens.
Support legal teams with discovery materials, deposition summaries, and case law research.
Stakeholder Communication & Documentation Control:
Collaborate with project managers, general contractors, and developers to streamline project and legal documentation.
Maintain organized legal records, track contract modifications, and document project disputes.
Summarize key contract terms for non-legal stakeholders.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field or any legal experience.
2-5+ years of experience in legal writing, contract review, or construction law.
Familiarity with construction schedules, pay applications, and cost control is a plus.
Excellent legal writing, contract analysis, and negotiation skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
