Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical coding and terminology, with experience in managing medical records and billing processes. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate coding for diagnoses and procedures, which directly impacts patient care and the financial health of our organization.

Responsibilities

Review and analyze medical records to ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9 and ICD-10 systems.
Assign appropriate DRG codes based on documentation provided by healthcare providers.
Collaborate with medical office staff to clarify any discrepancies in medical records or coding practices.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards related to medical coding and billing.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and best practices.
Assist in the preparation of medical collections by ensuring accurate coding is reflected in billing statements.
Provide training and support to other staff members regarding medical terminology and coding practices as needed.
Requirements

Proven experience in medical coding, preferably within a healthcare setting.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG, and medical billing processes.
Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office operations.
Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills to ensure accuracy in coding.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is preferred but not required.
